Spring Season Tips
  •  Begin feeding bulbs with liquid fertilizer as they emerge from the ground
  • Uncover and remove all winter mulch
  • Divide and replant overgrown perennials
  • Till flower and vegetable garden soil deeply and add composted cow manure, peat moss or composted leaves  -- if desired add a slow release fertilizer
  • Plant frost tolerant pansies for early spring color, our garden center has them in packs and pots
  • Plant bareroot trees and shrubs now
  • Apply fresh mulch around trees and shrubs for weed control
  • Get that winter tree wrap removed
  • Get a soil test as soon as the ground thaws
  • Check your lawn for snow mold and vole damage
  • When your grass and soil are fairly dry, it's time to start raking up the dead grass, leaves and other debrie --those areas affected by snow mold will need to be thoroughly raked to raise the matted grass
  • Many summer flowering shrubs can be pruned in April
  • Late April to early May is the time to apply your Spring Fertilizer and Crabgrass Preventer to your lawn
  • Get those garden tools out and get them cleaned and sharpened
  • Get the hummingbird and oriole feeders out --they usually return between the last week of April and the first week of May
  • In late April, as soon as the soil can be worked, you can plan cool-season crops like peas, lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, cabbage, radishes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, garlic and onions
  • Let's garden, the season has begun!
