- Begin feeding bulbs with liquid fertilizer as they emerge from the ground
- Uncover and remove all winter mulch
- Divide and replant overgrown perennials
- Till flower and vegetable garden soil deeply and add composted cow manure, peat moss or composted leaves -- if desired add a slow release fertilizer
- Plant frost tolerant pansies for early spring color, our garden center has them in packs and pots
- Plant bareroot trees and shrubs now
- Apply fresh mulch around trees and shrubs for weed control
- Get that winter tree wrap removed
- Get a soil test as soon as the ground thaws

- Check your lawn for snow mold and vole damage
- When your grass and soil are fairly dry, it's time to start raking up the dead grass, leaves and other debrie --those areas affected by snow mold will need to be thoroughly raked to raise the matted grass
- Many summer flowering shrubs can be pruned in April
- Late April to early May is the time to apply your Spring Fertilizer and Crabgrass Preventer to your lawn
- Get those garden tools out and get them cleaned and sharpened
- Get the hummingbird and oriole feeders out --they usually return between the last week of April and the first week of May
- In late April, as soon as the soil can be worked, you can plan cool-season crops like peas, lettuce, spinach, beets, carrots, cabbage, radishes, broccoli, brussel sprouts, garlic and onions
